The Partnership between CGA and FERT has been in existence since July 2014 when it started with two counties (Nakuru and Narok) and has since expanded to cover Nakuru, Narok, Laikipia, Meru and Uasin Gishu. The main focus of the CGA-FERT partnership is institutional development and organizational strengthening with the aim of enhancing service delivery to CGA members both at the County and National level. These services include farmer representation and advocacy, technical (advisory and extension) and economic services (input and output market linkages) and information services (prices, markets, weather advisory).
There are three programmes currently being implemented in the five mentioned counties.
This project seeks to enhance the technical and governance capacity of CGA’s farmer leadership at the County and National levels to support the delivery of services to its members. The overall objective of SEPOP is to contribute to the development of the cereal farming sector and the improvement of the livelihoods of CGA’s family farms through the strengthening of a sustainable CGA leadership and governance structure.
Coverage: Laikipia, Meru, Nakuru, Narok and Uasin Gishu Counties.
Since 2015, FERT has been engaged in the implementation of the TransFert program in partnership with AFD. This program contributes to the development of agricultural services amongst CGA farmers. So far there have been three phases of TransFert (TF1, TF2, and TF3). In 2020, FERT embedded the Farmer Organizations for Africa, Caribbean, and Pacific Countries (FO4ACP) Project in its TransFert program with CGA.
This project is a sub-contract agreement between CGA and FERT under the funding programme signed between AgriCord and EU and IFAD. FERT is supporting CGA under the project “Cereal Value Chain Development” with co-financing from the TransFert program, implemented by FERT and CGA with the support of AFD.
The overall objective of the FO4ACP program is to increase income and improve livelihoods, food and nutrition security, and safety of organized smallholder and family farmers in Africa, the Caribbean, and the Pacific (ACP) countries.
Coverage: Laikipia, Meru, Nakuru, Narok and Uasin Gishu Counties.
Partners: FERT, AgriCord, EU and IFAD.
