The Cereal Growers Association (CGA) was established in 1996 by a group of passionate cereal farmers determined to address the challenges facing Kenya's grain farming sector. What started as a small coalition has grown into the country's foremost farmer organisation, representing smallholder and commercial cereal farmers across 33+ counties.
Over 30 years, CGA has championed farmer interests at national and international policy forums, facilitated market linkages worth billions of shillings, and pioneered agribusiness innovations including digital farmer profiles, Farmer Service Centers, and the CG-SACCO financial cooperative.

Founded by about 20 large-scale wheat farmers with the main objective of liberalising the wheat market and lobbying for favourable service and trading conditions for wheat growers in Kenya. First office opened in Nakuru.
WGA rebranded to the Cereal Growers Association (CGA) to cater for all cereal farmers in Kenya, including maize farmers. More partners were on-boarded and Farmer Field Days expanded to Eldoret and Nakuru.
CGA was formally registered as an association. More value chains were introduced including pulses, and the organisation expanded its reach to more regions while championing favourable trading conditions for farmers.
Cereal Growers Sacco Society Limited was founded to help bridge the capital gap for increased agricultural investment, improving the economic and social livelihoods of CGA members.
CGA introduced the Farmer Service Center (FSC) model — rural agribusiness hubs providing agricultural inputs, market access, agronomic advice, financial services, and digital tools to farming communities.
CGA continues to work with members across 33+ counties of Kenya, empowering over 700,000 farmers with best agricultural practices and supporting youth to embrace agriculture as an income-generating venture.
